Cognitive Injury and Addiction

This presentation will overview the cognitive sequelae related to addictive disorders, including secondary cognitive disorders caused by substance addiction as well as the exacerbation of preexisting cognitive difficulties due to substance abuse. Evaluation methods for assessing and diagnosing cognitive problems, recommendations for recovery of cognitive injury and adaptive living, and expected prognosis for recovery will be discussed.

Dr. Ho pursues her media consultant work with the goal of providing information to the general public about psychological issues in daily life and quality mental health care, and to reduce stigma towards mentally ill individuals and to encourage people who need help to seek effective treatment.

Gina H. Tabrizy:

Anger on the Road to Recovery

According to the National Center for Victims of Crime “in 2005, 389,100 women and 78,180 men were victimized by an intimate partner. These crimes accounted for 9 percent of all violent crime.” In the majority of these cases the offenders are court mandated to take an anger management course. This lecture will focus on the roots of anger which lie in traumatic experiences and become expressed in unhealthy, destructive anger. Learning to identify trauma and work with the anger rather than repress it is the goal for treatment.

Gina H. Tabrizy is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over thirty years of experience, knowledge, and expertise in the areas of Addiction, Trauma, and Codependency. She has appeared on Local and National Television Programs, such as Montel Williams, speaking about the impact of Childhood Trauma/Abuse and Addiction in Families. Gina has been a guest on several talk radio programs, including KEZY, and moderated programs on the internet. She has presented at the National Conference on Codependency and given hundreds of lectures at agencies, corporations, schools, colleges, and universities. Gina has written feature articles for numerous publications.

In 1994, along with her husband Farid Tabrizy, she founded Harmony of Body, Mind, and Spirit Counseling Center, now known as Harmony Heals, Inc. Currently she is the Clinical Director of Harmony Heals, Inc. and Harmony Heals Detox & Rehab. Gina also holds consulting positions for several other treatment and residential recovery programs. Her specialties include: E.M.D.R., Certified Hypnotherapist, Director of Psychodrama, Inner Child Work, and P.I.T. (Pia Mellody Training). She enjoys a reputation for providing excellent clinical care with a high success rate. She is known for being direct, passionate, and loving in the art of practicing psychotherapy. She is a proud mother of two children whom she considers her greatest accomplishment and joy.
