PRESENTATION:

"Guiding Families and Clients to Appropriate Care in Complex Cases"

Family systems that include a loved one with complex challenges can struggle for years to identify the true origin, nature and severity of an individual's problematic issues. As a consequence, families frequently initiate numerous attempts at treatment only for it to be a poor fit, low quality or simply rejected by the person in need of help.

In this presentation, Ms. Sanger will empower clinicians to facilitate a comprehensive clinical assessment and gain a deeper understanding of the different levels and types of treatment available. Attendees will grow in their ability to confidently make ethical and informed referrals as well as share their findings and recommendations in a way that fosters openness and motivation towards engagement in suggested courses of action.

At the conclusion of this training, attendees will be able to:

1)      Explain the key elements of a thorough clinical family interview and have an outline to use as a guide.

2)      Discuss how to holistically recognize and prioritize short-term treatment goals for the family and then formulate and educate the family on long-term treatment plans.

3)      List the different types of treatment available and have at least one resource for each.

4)      Identify three intervention strategies that will move your clients and/or their loved one towards seeking treatment.

SPEAKER:

Mary Sanger, M.A., LMFT-S, LPC-S, LCDC

Mary Sanger is the founder and co-owner of Dallas Family and Divorce Mediation Services (dfdms.com) and author of "Ready To Talk: A Companion Guide To Talk Therapy"  (https://www.amazon.com/Ready-Talk-Companion). In her role as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Professional Counselor, and Chemical Dependency Counselor, Mary Sanger works with couples, individuals, families, and businesses struggling with relationship difficulties.

Ms. Sanger provides consultation, assessment, and referrals for families or businesses trying to understand how to help someone with emotional, mental health, or substance use problems. She is also trained as a mediator and provides family and divorce mediation services. In her role as a therapist, frequent topics include, among a host of other things, infidelity, lack of connectedness, poor communication, unresolved conflict, enmeshment/co-dependency, or even being in relationship with a “crazy maker” and so feeling “crazy.”

Returning to school after working in the business world for 20 years, she obtained her Master of Arts in Counseling from Argosy University Dallas in 2007. In 2011 she founded Insights Collaborative Therapy Group which merged her talent for business development and management with her psychotherapeutic skills. Since that time, Ms. Sanger has established a practice that is well-respected within the professional community for providing comprehensive collaborative mental health services as well as a place to mentor and give opportunity for newer therapists. In 2016 three of her colleagues joined her as owners of Insights Collaborative Therapy Group.

She has a strong commitment to helping clients find the tools to create their own happiness in relationships and enrich their connectedness to the world and the people around them. Her theoretical orientation is based on Bowen Family Systems Theory and the work of Dr. David Schnarch. Both are centered around the concept of differentiation – a person’s ability to maintain a sense of self while in an emotionally and physically close relationship with another, balancing the need for attachment with the need for autonomy. Managing our own emotions and intellect allows us to more fully enjoy our own lives as well as engage in more meaningful, less conflicted relationships.
