Cultivating Personal Agency Through Clinical Practice

The purpose of this presentation is to support clinicians' recognition of the role agency plays as a concept in psychotherapy and how it manifests through the therapeutic relationship in support of our clients’ progress and change. This presentation and discussion will center on the ways clinicians can facilitate the development of agency through different clinical modalities and in different domains in their clients’ lives. Time will also be spent discussing how to apply these concepts in one’s work with specific clinical populations.

At the conclusion, the participant will be able to:

a. Discuss the importance of cultivating personal agency in support of therapeutic progress.
b. Identify specific strategies and modalities to facilitate the development of agency in those we serve.
c. Identify how to apply strategies discussed with specific clinical populations.
